Siemens Digital Industries Software has completed the acquisition of DownStream Technologies, a provider of manufacturing data preparation solutions for printed circuit board (PCB) design. The acquisition enhances Siemens’ PCB design portfolio and increases its presence in the small and medium-sized business (SMB) market.
“The acquisition is a significant step for Siemens EDA in the mid-sized PCB market, offering DownStream's customers improved time to market, quality, and cost efficiency,” said Mike Ellow, CEO of Siemens Electronics Design Automation (EDA). He noted that integrating DownStream Technologies allows Siemens EDA to provide a comprehensive manufacturing data preparation solution that supports a smooth transition from design to production.
Founded in 2002 and based in Marlborough, Massachusetts, DownStream Technologies offers tools that help manufacturers visualize and prepare PCB designs for fabrication. Its BluePrint-PCB tool facilitates the creation of detailed manufacturing documents and aims to enhance efficiency in the PCB development process.
Rick Almeida, founder of DownStream Technologies, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We're excited to join forces with Siemens and bring our decades of expertise into their world-class ecosystem.” He emphasized the potential for an integrated solution that improves efficiency for PCB designers.
The transaction closed on April 7, 2025, although terms were not disclosed. For more information about this acquisition, visit Siemens’ announcement blog.
